5.0 out of 5 stars Best electric fireplace I've seen., November 27, 2011
This review is from: Fire Sense Wood Wall Mounted Electric Fireplace (Lawn & Patio)
I spent a year looking looking at electric fireplaces after deciding I didn't want the hassle of a regular firplace, a gas vented fireplace, or a gas non-vented fireplace.

I looked at every store I could think of and they read anything I could find on the internet.

One theme came through... Dimplex.

I looked at the various models of Dimplex fireplaces, but the ones I wanted were $2,000!!!

I finally bought a Dimplex fireplace insert from Ebay for half of the list price and mated it with a prefrabicated firplace enclosure.

I thought I had the best artificial flame I could get and I'm still very happy with the big fireplace in my livingroom.

But today I'm strolling through a local Menard's store and I spy this unit just setting there in the shelf, It wasn't tured on, but it just looked high class.

I looked it over a bit and ws reminded of some of those $800 wall mounted firplaces they use in bedrooms or areas... Read more

I didn't need the heat feature. All we wanted was the ambience and that's what we got. Easy to mount and well worth the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heat, January 22, 2012

This was a let down it doesn't heat, you have to be right up on it to feel any heat. The air is forced out the top instead of the front which I would have preferred. It's pretty but not effective.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pleased, November 21, 2011

It is NOT real but uses about 10 watts without the heater, looks fine and does have a remote control and separate heat, NO sound. The heater has a blower fan that makes a little noise but seems to put out a decent amount of heat for a small electric heater. I have glass screen doors so I really can not comment on the actual effectiveness of the heater.

I moved my gas logs to the back. I place this unit on the old grate which elevates the units remote sensor and controls above the brass base trim of my glass doors. In an emergency I could remove the unit and use gas.

TIP: Looks are dependent on room lighting. The dancing flames are projected out the back. A 24"x24" piece of cardboard upright 3"-4" behind helps the flames appearance. The cardboard could be spay painted any color to match the interior.

UPDATE: This unit has been "ON" (no heat) for at least 4 hours each day and usually closer to 12-16 hours for more than the last 2 weeks. It has given new... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars My First Fireplace, November 27, 2011

This review is from: KW Electric Log Set w/Heater (Electronics)
As a little girl of the 70's I remember watching the Christmas specials with the snow falling outside and everyone sitting in front of the fireplace singing Christmas carols by a roaring fire, hot chocolate in hand, Christmas stockings hanging from the mantle and the Christmas tree twinkling in the background but reality is that I am a Florida native and our Christmases here are usually very balmy so a fireplace is just out of place here. Nevertheless I have always wanted a fireplace that I could decorate for the holidays just like in all of those Christmas specials I watched as a child but I live in a rental home so building a real fireplace is out of the question so what was I to do? I chose to build a faux fireplace and just light it with some white Christmas lights or some other type of lights to give the illusion of a fire but without the right kind of light effect AND heat (who can have a fire without heat?!)it just wasn't what my heart yearned for so I kept searching for a more... 4.0 out of 5 stars Assembly Frustration, February 8, 2010

This review is from: Dimplex DFI23TRIMX Expandable Trim Kit for Electric Fireplace Insert (Kitchen)
This is the second Trim Kit I have purchased. (Left the first one in previous house). The instructions for assembly are bad and difficult to follow. Just pictures with no written instructions. Worst part is the poor quality of screws for assembly. They are cheaply made and threads easily stripped during installation. It was, again, as with the first kit I purchased, a very frustrating experience to assemble.
Dealing with Amazon, through whom I made the purchase, was a good experience.

Yes, the instructions are a joke. After reading them several times and studying the the diagrams, I did manage to get the thing put together. All told, it took me about 2 and half hours. Luckily, I did not have a problem with any of the screws as mentioned in other reviews. My biggest fear was I would run out of them, but as it turned out, there were a few extra included. When I finished installing the fire screen, I could not get it to close all the way. I have about a 3 inch gap in the middle between the two screens where they are supposed to close. Seems the hardware that holds the two curtain rods in the middle is in the way. No big deal though as it still looks pretty good left partially open. You know, I'm still scratching my head whether it's a design flaw or if I'm the one whose flawed. Anyways, as mentioned by most other reviewers, the directions were not much help in solving the problem.
The finished trim kit is very nice looking... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Could Be Easier to Assemble With BETTER INSTRUCTIONS, September 23, 2011
This review is from: Dimplex DFI23TRIMX Expandable Trim Kit for Electric Fireplace Insert (Kitchen)
Well-constructed & does what it's designed to do, but it took me 6 hours to assemble and install this fireplace frame. The problem is mostly due to shortcomings in the instructions.

First, there are practically no instructions at all; it's follow the pictures . . . if your eyesight is good enough. Do not attempt this if you are spatially challenged, a novice at do-it-yourself projects, or lack sufficient lighting.

Second, the baggy of tiny black screws contains a surprise. Those screws all look much alike, but two of them are definitely not the same as the rest. Those two have have larger threads; if used in the wrong place, they could easily strip a pre-drilled hole (as an earlier reviewer may have done). Unfortunately, there is no warning note and those two screws are not called for until late in the process when it is time to fasten the frame bracket to the fireplace insert. By then, I had unwittingly used one of those two oddballs in the wrong place... Read more
