Honestly, with a little doctoring it looks great. I already had a decorative screen and log rack, which really adds to the effect. I also added a small piece of wood across the lit window in the front so it did not look like a perfect rectangle of orange light, which also looks great. I read on another site that some people hid a mirror (or piece of foil) behind the flame to enhance the glow (I haven't tried that, but it might add to the glow effect). The turn on switch is in an odd place, so we plugged it into one of those add in plugs that can be turned on right at the plug or by remote, which is great. The "crackling" sound is a bit odd, but hardly noticeable really. If you play with the piece of metal by bending it, it almost sounds like a true...
